World Happiness Day was celebrated on the 8th of August 2008 and at the same time we were spreading our own feel good messages at the Soroptimist International organised Young Womens Leadership conference for 200 teenage women at Bond University on the Gold Coast in Australia.

The event was a spectacular success and speakers, organisers and attendees alike all had a truly rocking day.

Soroptimist International is also a launch partner for the vital UNIFEM global internet based advocacy campaign "Say no to violence against women" which runs until 25 November 2008, the internationally recognised day to eliminate violence against women.

Violence against women and girls has reached pandemic proportions. It is estimated that 1 in 3 women and girls may be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in their lifetime.

As UNIFEM’s Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman stated recently:

“The Say NO campaign provides people all over the world with an opportunity to add their names to an ever-growing movement of people demanding that ending violence against women be made a top priority for governments around the world.” Read More ..
