Lost and Found – A Rok’n great Tale!

By Matt Kirk Friday, 29 September 2006
Pretty much everyone has lost their wallet or purse at least once in their lives and as you’d agree, the sheer thought of it can give you feelings of angst given it’s such a hassle.

Here’s my story and here’s what you can try next time you find yourself in a similar predicament. If it worked for me, maybe it’ll work for you too.

In early September 2006, Sari and I travelled to Dubai to do some business and a present a couple of ‘Bullseye – Top Trader Thinking’ seminars. After 5 days of meetings and a tad of shopping at Mall of the Emirates we embarked on our return trip to Oz.
At Changi airport we checked our emails (as you do to fill in time when you have a 2 hour transit stop) and then jumped on the Singapore Airlines flight for the 7 hours back to our Mountain and of course, back to our ‘magic baby’, Oscar who we’d been missing incredibly for 6 days.

Upon disembarking at Brisbane Airport, we made a pit stop at the duty free store so I could get Mum some Shalimar perfume. All sorted, rocked up to the checkout then, doh…where’s my wallet!!!

I furiously rummaged through our two camera bags at least a dozen times (funny how you think the 8th search will be fruitful and even then you keep checking – now that’s what you call denial!) – but to no avail, my wallet was definitely AWOL. We got security to board our plane and no luck, “Sorry sir, it wasn’t under seat D32.”

Like you, I really don’t like losing things as I always feel I’ve got a good handle on my ‘stuff’ – but alas, it was gone. It was now 9pm, we were knackered and we had to get through customs and jump a cab for the hour drive home.

As we travelled along in the cab I did the sensible thing and cancelled my credit cards over the phone and like a man possessed, checked the Sony camera bags again…bugger, it still didn’t materialise!

Back to work, back to our life and a couple of days later – do I also cancel my driver’s license? Nah, I thought, I have a funny feeling I won’t need to worry about that…

I decided there and then to make a choice – I would test some of my theories of how life works and play a game with the Universe. I didn’t make a big deal of it and I only mentioned to a couple of people that my wallet had ‘stayed on holidays’ as I didn’t want to give the event too much energy.
I figured if I stayed positive and had faith in people, my wallet with the treasured photos of our wedding and Oscar as a newborn would be returned intact.

I emailed our travel agent, Kath Maher (kathstravelco@hotmail.com – Go Tours)
and joked with her, “Had a great trip, however my wallet wanted to stay in Singapore. Do you think my travel insurance will pay out on some priceless photos?”

Kath came back with - “Great...glad it all went smoothly! That's a bummer about your wallet though. You should be covered to some extent. Call xxxxx and check, they will be able to tell you. Any queries, let me know!”

A couple of days later Kath emailed me –
“Have you heard back from the insurance company re your wallet?”

“Nup – didn’t bother calling them – just got busy and I’ve also put it out there that I will receive it back in the mail in the next week or so! I’ll keep you posted.”

Kath replies, “I love your faith but I’ve never heard of anyone getting a wallet back before. Good luck!”

That night I went to bed and visualised going to our letterbox and finding and envelope containing my wallet. I was willing it back to me using the Law of Attraction (have you seen the film, ‘The Secret’? If not, do yourself a favour and grab a copy.) To give the whole deal a double dose of positive energy I got myself some new Rox and rolled them around with added fervour.

I told those who knew about my loss I would get it back and, yes, they laughed. I mentally pressed on, not with hope but with ‘knowing’. Not for a minute did I suggest to myself that I would not be victorious in my quest.

Two days later, more visualising, more Rok rolling and seven days after returning home, I go to the letterbox and what do you know, there’s a letter from Changi Airport.

In a nutshell it said,

Dear Mr Kirk,
We’ve got your wallet with all these things in it. Come and get it or send a courier to collect it at your expense.
Happy flying,
Changi Airport

“He he…nice one Bruvaaaaaa” – I thought to myself as I sauntered back to the front door. So now to get it back from Singapore.

Next day, Kath to the rescue – she took the matter into her own hands and got a quote from a well-known, (have you seen the movie, ‘Cast-Away?’) international courier company who quoted $A200. Not good enough, so being the legend Kat his, she organised with Singapore Airlines to have my wallet sent by registered mail from Changi Airport to Brisbane Airport, then from Brisbane Airport to our home in the Mountains for, you guessed it, ‘nada’!

Now UROKers, I ask you…was it faith, a fluke, rolling my Rox, a combination of all or just a co-incidence that my ‘knowing’ and positive visualisation turned out to be the reality of receiving what I asked for? Would my wallet have turned up if I’d complained about it’s loss and/or if I’d beaten myself up about losing it? I don’t know – what I do know is, any negative thoughts certainly wouldn’t have been healthy for my mind or for those around me who had to listen to my whinging about it.

As Sari says in her Guided Visualisation CD – “In every moment, there is choice” – and that extends to the choices we make about how we think, act and react to a whole range of situations in our lives, including losing your wallet or purse or mobile phone!

If it works for a wallet then maybe it’ll work for all manner of things, experiences, achievements and/or, feelings you desire.

You, my friends, can be the judge…

Remember, UROK!
Cheers
Matt

PS. A huge thanks to the wonderful person who handed it in (something great will happen to you!), to Changi Airport, Singapore Airlines and of course, to Kathryn Maher. Another ‘coincidence’ – the girl who called me from Singapore Airlines in Sydney told me she was born on the same day as me - spooky!

PPS. For legal reasons and prudence, always cancel your credit cards and notify the police about the loss of your driver’s license.

PPPS. Make sure your belongings don’t fall out of your pocket when you sit down in a comfortable chair at an airport!
